The autocomplete truth, the unspoken truth.

INEQUALITY.

This year's topic for Blog Action Day is really a very warse, yet very difficult topic. There are so many areas we can talk about, from social, economy, race, sexuality to age, education, rights, etc. This shows there are still so much for us to work on to make this world a better place to live.

First thing come to my mind was to talk about the racial inequality, but then, this is a extremely sensitive topic from where I live in. Then again, I have been advocating for the equal rights for women all these years, perhaps this is a better topic.

Inequality

Despite we are now living in 21 century, gender inequality continues to be a worldwide issue. Women continues to be denied equal access to education, medical care, fair wages and personal autonomy. Even in the west, which has been leading in advocating equality for all, we still observe many incidents where women are not given the fair treatment. Search on the keyword "gender inequality" will returns many up-to-date news and results. Even tech giant, Google, also suffering from "unconscious" gender bias.

There are many more inequality issues faced by women around the world, amongst others, which truly upsetting is the violence against women. In many cases, the recurrence of these incidents were attributed to the negative stereotyping as well as outright silencing of women’s rights. And, of course, the ignorance by majority.

Violence against women must never be accepted, never excused, never tolerated.

Therefore, gender equality is not only a women’s issue, it is a human rights issue that requires everyone to work together, MEN and WOMEN. The launch of solidarity movement, HeforShe by UN Women is a timely move to call for all man, to speak up and stand up for gender equality.

Ask yourself: if not me, then who? If not now, when?
